Obsidian Security Expands in Germany to Protect Critical SaaS Applications for Organizations Across the Region

Leading European Enterprises Already Rely on Obsidian Security to Secure Their Data and Operations from Growing SaaS and PaaS Threats

Palo Alto, CA, October 16, 2024 — Obsidian Security is expanding its presence in Europe to accelerate SaaS security deployments for local businesses. This expansion will also enhance support for many of the region’s leading enterprises that already rely on Obsidian to protect their critical cloud-based applications, including Europe’s leading regulated infrastructure partner for digital and crypto solutions. To spearhead this growth, Obsidian has appointed Pascal Cronauer as Regional Sales Director, Central Europe, and Marko Kirschner as Director Field Operations, EMEA-Central.

SaaS attacks are increasing in frequency, and the consequences are growing more severe, as demonstrated by this year’s Santander Bank breach. Additionally, regulations like NIS2 and DORA impose stricter mandates for securing critical IT infrastructure, making it even more urgent for enterprises to address this security blind spot.

“European businesses, and regulators, have shown a strong focus on protecting users and data,” said Glenn Chisholm, Chief Product Officer at Obsidian Security. “As critical data and a growing number of employees migrate to SaaS applications, attackers have taken notice. These applications have become the new frontline for cyber threats.”

“What is unique to SaaS is the implicit trust many organizations have in their providers to securely configure the applications for them. However, SaaS applications put this responsibility on the customer; this often leaves apps poorly configured and sensitive data unknowingly exposed,” Chisholm added.

“Regulators and attackers always follow the data,” says Michael Schrank, CISO of leading global sports brand at Adidas. “With this data now spread across countless SaaS applications, securing these critical apps in one central location, and ensuring these apps meet all necessary compliance requirements, is top of mind.”

Driven by the urgent need to secure these critical SaaS applications, Cronauer and Kirschner joined Obsidian, bringing over 40 years of cyber security experience. Since starting at Obsidian, they have been actively investing in the regional market, launching strategic partnerships with leading organizations as well as working with customers to secure their SaaS. Cronauer and Kirschner will lead Obsidian’s expansion across the EMEA region, with Germany serving as the strategic hub for this growth.

Obsidian Security was founded with the goal of tackling the unaddressed blind spot of SaaS security. Trusted by leading Fortune 1000 and Global 2000 enterprises, Obsidian shields SaaS applications from identity threats, 3rd- and 4th-party integrations and data movement risks, and automates SaaS security posture management and compliance.
